Below are some of our popular Heli Wedding landing spots in New Zealand.
Remarkables, Queenstown
Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, the range lives up to its name by rising sharply to create an impressive backdrop for the waters. The Remarkables is the closest Helicopter landing spot from Queenstown Airport, and snow can be found here until early November.
Double Cone, Queenstown
The Double Cone is at the higher end of the Remarkables, with incredible views overlooking Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Cheeky little Kea birds sometimes come for visits (as you can see this in photo here)
Cecil Peak, Queenstown
The Queenstown icon - Cecil Peak is the main big mountain you’ll see from Queenstown town center.
The Ledge, Queenstown
Not for the faint of heart - The Ledge is a cliff-top spot that is over 2000m above ground level. If you are after something truly EPIC in Queenstown and are not afraid of heights, this is a great choice!
Bayonet Peak, Queenstown
Bayonet Peak is hidden to the South behind Cecil Peak, and is a solid option to land on when there are strong westerly winds coming in (making other spots not suitable).
Lochy River, Queenstown
On a really windy day, there are not many options other than to fly to a deep and secluded valley like the Lochy River. This place is packed with wilderness with stag deer, tahr and bulls, by the rivers the the vast waterfalls from the mountains with not a sight of any manmade objects.
Mt Bonpland, Glenorchy
Mount Bonpland is the big mountain you’ll see on the other side of the lake, looking West from Glenorchy. Overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the Glenorchy Delta, Mt Bonpland offers stunning panoramic views and is one of our favourite landing spots. The terrain here is soft and forgiving, which is a bonus.
Mt Creighton, Glenorchy
Mt Creighton is positioned right in between Queenstown and Glenorchy, overlooking the magnificent Lake Wakatipu. Enjoy panoramic views stretching from Glenorchy to the north, down to Queenstown towards the South. Although there is no snow here in Summer, Mt Creighton looks great especially around sunset.
The Humboldts, Glenorchy
The Humboldts is a beautiful mountain range on the opposite side of Glenorchy, located at the very north of Lake Wakatipu. There are a few landing spots at the Humboldts, ranging from grassy to rocky depending on the height of the landing spot.
Fog Peak / Mt Alta
Fog Peak is nestled opposite Mt Aspiring, among the deep mountain valleys behind the Treble Cone. There are snow-covered spots even in summer, and the highlight of this location is the valley views.
Coromandel Peak, Wanaka
Coromandel Peak, better known as “Roys Peak” is undoubtedly New Zealand’s Premiere Heli Wedding spot, overlooking Lake Wanaka and looking towards Mt Aspiring. Although this mountain is climbed by tens of thousands of Instagrammers every year, our Helicopter operators will take us to a higher spot (private land) called Coromandel Peak for an unforgettable and truly magnificent Heli Wedding experience.
Liebig Dome, Mt Cook
This is as close as you can get to the peak of Mt Cook, with a stunning backdrop contrasted by red mineral rocks in the foreground. In Summer, there are some spots at Liebig Dome that are covered in snow, overlooking a beautiful glacial lake. For this beautiful spot, we take off from Glen Tanner Airport at the base of Mt Cook and fly through some of the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand.
Richardson Glacier, Mt Cook
If you are looking for photos on the snow in summer, Richardson Glacier is the perfect spot for it. Enjoy the warm summer sun, while standing on ancient glacial ice and snow. For this beautiful spot, we take off from Glentanner Airport at the base of Mt Cook and fly through some of the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand.
