Mountain-ringed prefectural capital Nagano (長野) has been a place of pilgrimage since the Kamakura when it was a temple town on the magnificent Zenkō-, which still draws more than four million visitors per year. The prefecture of Nagano has abundant natural beauty, and is famed for its ski resorts and hot springs.
